Living in major cities is undeniably the dream
for most young adults. We have a burning desire to be where the culture and
race are diverse, the never-sleeping cities and above all, places where the
opportunities are endless. That all sums up to megalopolises such as New York,
Hong Kong, London, Singapore, just to name a few.
While all the eye-striking neon lights and
skyscrapers come naturally to the city dwellers, these things do not seem
common among those living in suburban areas all their lives. You will find it
hard to adapt to the city life initially when you move from the small town that
you have lived comfortably all these years. It can be mixed feelings of fear
and excitement when you find yourself residing in an unknown environment.
However, as time passes by, you will realise
that you have gained a lot of experience after experiencing multiple challenges
along your journey. Having said that, here are the four things that you will
learn when you move from your small town to the major cities.
1.
Not Knowing Everyone.
Long gone are the days where you would greet
everyone you meet along the road as everyone practically knows one another back
in your hometown. You longed for the friendliness of your neighbours and are
you are considered lucky if your neighbour talks to you. People in the city
area are more confined to themselves and they are less interactive with others.
They embrace their privacy much more than your small town natives. To think
on the bright side, you can save your energy without having to greet a thousand
times whenever you are.
2.
Do Not Drive.
Driving to a supposedly 10-minutes distance
place can turn into an hour long trip considering the heavy traffic that occurs
all the time. The duration gets even longer if there are accidents that happen
as those drivers in front of you will pause their cars to look at the
situations. In addition, after going through the battles with traffic and reach
your destination, you will face with another problem: finding a car park.
Despite the huge car park areas, they are always full and the cars will seem to
be forever parked in the lots.
3.
Avoid From Becoming Snatcher’s Target.
Even before you move to the city, you have heard
enough stories about the burglaries, snatching incidents and cruel murder cases
that send shiver to your spines. Never leave anything valuables in sight inside
your cars if you want to avoid your car windows from being smashed to pieces.
Furthermore, always be conscious of the surroundings while you are in the
crowds.
4.
Your New Neighbourhood Has More People Than Your Whole Hometown.
It is true that the people living in your area
will definitely be way more than those in your small town. That being said,
there will be a lot of strangers around and you can get to expand your social
circle by communicating with them. Even though they might seem to be treating
you coldly at first, you will be surprised that city folks are actually very
friendly too once you get to know them deeper. All the poker faces are the
results of them meeting so many strangers that are scammers to the point that
they lose faith on getting to know those without having bad intentions and
actually want to be friends.
