As a result, travellers are now advised to only purchase SIM cards from official mobile carrier stores. Upon purchasing of the prepaid SIM Card, you will need to show your passport to register the card.

Most other vendors cannot register a SIM card for you, meaning if you purchase from them, you are buying a pre-activated SIM card which are not officially sanctioned and you run the risk of having your SIM card being cancelled or deactivated after a few days.

The only proper way to get an officially registered SIM card is to buy from an official company store, where you can easily spot these by the company logo on the front of the store with their uniformed sales assistants.
